A note from the author:

A lot of people are asking a billion questions about the book that I have written. I thought it would be a good idea to write about why I do this kind of stuff.

About four years ago, I read a story about a little girl named Sukan, that changed my life. I decided at that point that I would not rest until this needless suffering stopped. As long as I could do something, I would do something. This is that story. Proceed with caution…

Sukan will break your heart. She is an eight year-old Cambodian girl, sold by her parents to help pay the expenses of raising the rest of their family. Spirited out of Cambodia into Thailand along with another little girl, she was sold again. New “owners” and a false passport got the two to Toronto’s Pearson International Airport and through customs. After a day of pornographic photography, they sat on a stool and watched a dozen white men pull out cash from their wallets and pass it to their “owner.” The two who ponied up the highest amount got the “honour of deflowering the two virgin children.”

After being robbed of their childhood by the two wealthiest men, the little girls were subjected to a series of rapes lasting through the night. The next morning they were taken across the Windsor border in the United States. Stripped, each was given a number on her back right shoulder blade with a black felt marker and pushed into a large room behind the stage in a club. They weren’t alone. Sukan and her partner were overwhelmed by the sight of 19 8-10 year olds, all naked, all numbered with the black felt marker. This night was to be a slave auction.

After being paraded out in a cattle call, and submitting to a litany of instructions: “jump, turn, bend over, strike alluring poses”, they were herded backstage. Then each was brought out alone to be auctioned off. Sukan was reserved to the end. She’d been told that the health of her family and her own future prospects hinged entirely on her performance. She determined to excel. She danced, hopped, twisted and turned like her very life depended on it. A heated bidding war escalated as Sukan tried even harder spiraling, arching, bending, smiling anything to increase her value. Finally the auctioneer called those time-honoured words “going once, going twice, sold!”

Sukan’s eight-year-old life was hawked for forty-two thousand dollars—the highest price ever paid for a prostitute at this site.
